Happy Birthday to sweet Gabrielle who blessed us with her presence six years ago (yesterday, June 25, it's after midnight now). So much to be thankful for in my life.
When Gabrielle was about 4 years old, her daycare teacher asked the class to share what their favorite food was. Her teacher told me that there were various answers as the kids raised their hands - pizza, chicken nuggets, cheeseburgers, etc. The teacher called upon Gabrielle to give her food choice - quietly she answered, "Butterfly Shrimp from Shogun". That's my girl.
It seemed fitting that when we asked her where she'd like to have her early birthday dinner, before daddy deploys for a short time, what her answer would be: Shogun. It was a great time and the butterfly shrimp were delicious. I'm only sad because this is the only picture that I got. They sang Happy Birthday, she did the chicken dance (sort of), and this is all that I got - but I love it. She still has her kiddy chopsticks in her hand.
1. a period of suspension from work, study, or other activity. Usually used for rest, recreation, or travel; recess or holiday.
2. freedom or release from duty, business or activity.
When I read the above definition of the word, "vacation", I think of a tropical island, sandy beaches, maybe a fruity drink and lots of sunshine. My recent vacation time didn't allow for any of the above, except for travel. And when I say travel, I mean a flight to Texas - there and back - and then a drive two and a half hours to Durham for doctor's appointments. The recent vacation time I took was very chaotic. I think I need a vacation from my vacation. I've heard that saying before but I never thought it held any truths. It does. We accomplished Sea World, Schlitterbahn, the Riverwalk, food galore, family visits, late nights, good conversations, lots of driving, laughing, and doctor appointments for the little bit (Gabrielle).
We came home to a house that is almost all the way unpacked but yet so much still yet to complete. My husband and I both went back to work today. I had a serious case of the Mondays, but lived through it.
I was able to grab the camera and take a couple of pictures of us. I even got myself in there, which isn't a frequent occurance. We did have a great time. It is always so good to see family and always so sad when we leave. That is part of the life we choose being in the military.
This little brown eyed beauty melts my heart. She's sweet when she wants to be and a ball of fire when she needs to be. She's just like her mom, I can't fault her for that.
