Well, it was supposed to be another afternoon in paradise behind the lens. Too bad the weather had different plans for me.
I had a "Save The Date" shoot, which I had never heard of before but am really excited about it. I've researched the topic and they're really fun, candid photos - which I love. We have rescheduled which allows me time for a little more research, that's a good thing. I've downloaded some templates and fonts, I can't wait.
Rain, rain, go away...
Save The Date
Since my last post, I have cried, had a couple of meltdowns, waived the little white flag of surrender, and attempted to post all of my photography equipment on eBay {or on the curb outside with a "free to good home" sign}. After the crash of my laptop and external, I was ready to throw in the towel. It's a lot of lessons learned though. I will do this, I won't do that...lessons learned.
I finally picked myself up, dusted myself off and am getting on the saddle again. There's no crying in photography?! I have a "Save The Date" shoot coming up. Honestly, I didn't even know what this was when I was approached. After some research, I think I'm gonna have fun with it.
To be continued...
On a fun note, here's a picture of my little Gabrielle to make you smile.

Back It Up
Have you ever had that sinking feeling in your gut when you turn your computer on and it takes a minute to warm up and turn on? But you think to yourself that it's just slow, it'll be fine, just give it a minute. Patience is a virtue, right? This was my exact thought over the weekend when my laptop failed me. The little guy just gave up. Kah-put!
All I kept thinking was, the glass is half full. I was determined to be optimistic, I knew everything was going to be okay. The drive to Best Buy was long as I tried to sort through what I had on the computer that I needed or if I had saved my work from the night before to my external. I had just did a photo shoot on Friday and had been paid. O.M.G. But, everything was going to be okay, right? Right.
The Geek Squad guy was quite the professional, as they usually are. He turns the computer on, the keys light up but there's a black screen...ugh, that darn black screen! He proceeds to turn the laptop over and pulls out his trusty, tiny screwdriver and opens the back to expose its organs. He pulls out something that's green and has metal on it and then turns it back over and pushes the power button. It's on, it's on!! Yay! I brought my external, I can just transfer everything quickly and then I'll let them take it and fix it...sounds too easy, right? That's because it is. That would have been in a perfect world. Instead, he quickly turns the laptop back over, takes something else out and tries to turn the power off/on/off/on...black screen again. It's dead, for real. He kindly tells us that we're still under warranty and that they can send it off to be fixed and that the hard drive can be pulled out and put into an enclosure ($79.99 @ Best Buy) and put our info from the hard drive on another computer. Another computer? My laptop is all that I have, what do you mean another computer? ....let me get an associate who can help you. Seriously.
I can't go without a computer. Can I? I tried it for a day. I just can't. There are pictures to edit, discs to write, just stuff to do. So, what did we do you ask? We broke down and bought another computer. It's a touch screen and as big as a TV. That's serious business right there. AND, my laptop is being revived. I'm praying that all of my programs are retrievable. Back everything up. That's it.
...say a little prayer for me.

Erik + Barbara {Wilmington NC Wedding } ...continued.
As a follow up to my previous post, here are a few pictures from the ceremony. There were 1400+ pictures to sort through (2800+ with the .jpg + RAW). I had a "like" folder along with an "edit" folder and then I purged those photos with closed eyes or blurry or just a bad picture all together. I feel more comfortable taking so many pictures so that I know at least ten good ones will turn out descent. I had a good day though. There were more than ten that I actually liked. I hope the couple like them as much as I enjoyed taking them.
Erik + Barbara {Wilmington Wedding}
Wow. This one is going down in my book - my book of "firsts" (not that I have one, but if I did...). When I was first told that someone had passed my information along as a photography referral, I never thought someone would choose me. I have no experience in wedding photography - I wanted to gain experience, but at that point I had zilch. We decided that I could take family pictures for this couple then once they saw the pictures they then could decide if I was the right fit.
After the final product had been delivered (family pictures), I was formally offered the wedding photographer spot. Me? You want me to be your photographer? Um, ok, sure...can I get back with you? Actually, I didn't hesitate. Who wouldn't want to jump on the opportunity to do something that brings absolute JOY to your life? Not me. Needless to say, I took the leap and am so thankful that I did.
Thank you, Barbara and Erik, for allowing me to spend the day with you to capture you and your family in your true essence. It was an absolutely beautiful day for a beautiful wedding.
There will be more pictures to follow. I'm going through the editing process still.
